Working to Live

Writer: Kayla WilliamsKayla Williams

Hello everyone, hope you are all having a great day. I'm finally ready to vent about this hot topic and I do realize my point of view on the matter may be controversial to some. Let's just jump right in shall we.....

Since industrialization, big business, and a civil war Americans have fought for more opportunities for the working class. From 1 dollar an hour in the 1960s to 7 maybe 15 in some states in the year 2022. Oh how far we have come; did you feel the sarcasm in my words through your screen because it is just oozing in-between the lines of my statement. Have you ever looked up how much you would have to make hourly in your state to be able to live a reasonable life there? Try it, it might surprise you. 62 years later and the minimum wage has grown 7 dollars in most states 15 in one state as of January 2022. Nevertheless, the cost of living keeps going up. It seems so easy to make money looking at internet personalities, small businesses, artists, athletes, actresses, filmmakers, the list goes on...

We go on social media we see so many videos of individuals living lavish lifestyles, with expensive cars, and luxurious vacations. The videos just look so amazing, don't they? Am I the only one who stares at those videos and wonders how do I get there, how can I be more like them, how do I...How do I make enough money to be able to start enjoying my life? This is where I say I am constantly working to live, but not to live, just to have money in my savings, a roof over my head, and food in my belly. Many will tell you the key to making money and living comfortably is through higher education or learning a trade.

Nevertheless, let's be real all higher education does is keep you stuck in the toxic work to live cycle; go to school for years, acquire a pretty penny in student loan debt that never stops incurring interest, work a low paying job until you have dedicated years of your life to earning experience until you are qualified to make more money, and I suppose somewhere in there you will eventually be able to enjoy spending the money you have worked so hard for. Some of you may say well if you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, and a decent paying job that got you all of that what is the problem..... The problem is how can I live when I am at work for 8-12 hours 5-7 days every week, and when I do have a day off it feels like a core to do the things I want to do; because all I want to do at that moment is sleep.

The average age for retirement is 62 I don't know about you but 62 is way too long for me to wait before I start living my best life. I want to be retired by 30 and I want to have multiple streams of passive income so that I will not have to clock in at any 9-5 by 25years old. Can I do it? "Idk, but I have my mindset and I am going to put my all into it." When am I going to start this journey? "Right now! and I hope to be on to some big things by my birthday." How am I going to make passive income? "Stay tuned, follow me and my journey to passive income in 2022. We are going to try it all!"
